How do I even get started finding a property?

• Speak with a lender:  It is important to speak with a lender at the beginning of the process in order to establish an accurate assessment of your purchasing power.  A lender will be able to pre-approve you for a loan which will strengthen you offer when you decide to purchase (makes your offer more appealing to the seller).
   
• Establish a relationship with an agent:  It is to your advantage to work with one agent from the beginning of your search.  That agent will guide you through the process letting you know everything to be expected and making sure that all the necessary steps are taken.  When you develop a relationship with your agent, she will get to know your requirements and preferences, thus narrowing your search to those properties best suited to your lifestyle.  This saves you time and is likely to make your search more successful.
